JASS and Class 4
For the second year running, Class 4 will take part in the Junior Award Scheme for Schools. JASS is a progressive learning programme for children and young people aged 5 – 13 years which has been designed to recognise wider achievement and covers these areas: my interests which could be a new hobby or interest or one which can be further developed; get active, stay active which covers regular involvement in a sport or physical activity; me and my world which is a community or environmental project; adventure which is a teamwork challenge through involvement in an outdoor activity. JASS is a ‘youth version’ of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, and is designed to be delivered by teachers or youth leaders. It is progressive over eight levels with an increased minimum time commitment at each level and an expectation that participants take more responsibility for management of their programme as they progress. JASS days will feature in the Class 4 diary throughout the year but there can be lots more added from home, as children extend and enhance the awards they receive which is directly related to the amount of time spent on each level. Participants are awarded a sectional certificate on completion of each aspect and a full certificate and badge on completing an award level. Lastly, JASS supports the transition from primary to secondary education and is really well established in Scottish schools.
There will be more on this in our weekly newsletters and posted on the Class 4 pupil page of our website. Exciting times for our oldest pupils and lots to look forward to as always J
