Early Years

Thank you for taking the time to find out more about our Early Years' provision. We believe it is a wonderful place for young children to learn and develop in a safe, caring, happy environment.

The first steps in education are important for every child. At Stamfordham Primary, we introduce children to the world of education through fun and engaging activities. We focus on the individual needs of each child and help them to develop the foundational skills that are so crucial in early years learning.

Our Early Years Unit is located within our wonderful primary school, which ensures young children become familiar with the atmosphere of a school and spending time near older children. We’ve found this to be highly beneficial for children who progress from our preschool to our primary school, as they settle in quickly to familiar surroundings.

Our preschool provision

The preschool provision is available for 2 to 4 year-olds and provided by a team of experienced carers and educators.

Early Years Lead and Reception class teacher (Monday-Thursday): Claire Tait

Reception teacher (Fridays): Lauren Gray

Preschool lead: Sarah Phillipson

Preschool staff team: Devon Black, Sally Browell, Janice Scott

With development at the heart of our preschool provision, our dedicated, highly-trained staff team follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, to ensure every child's individual needs are met. Their aim is to nurture children to be happy, independent and inquisitive with a love for learning and the world around them.

Complementing our curriculum are our fantastic facilities and resources. We understand that establishing an environment conducive to learning gives children the best chance to develop and progress. Our 'open-ended' resources and calm, welcoming space helps to encourage children to be curious and have a go. We also have our own garden, and often take our learning outside, whatever the weather.

We believe parents are the first and most important educators of their young children and work hard to build collaborative relationships with parents and carers, encouraging them to have regular involvement in school life, beginning on their child's first day in preschool.

The preschool is a full day-care facility, from 7.45am, with optional breakfast and after school club until 5.30pm.

Funding for children

At the SPS preschool, we are delighted to be able to offer free education and childcare for 2 year-olds and 30 hours’ free childcare to the parents of 3 and 4 year olds.

The funding is provided by the government. To secure funding for your child, visit the government website.
