Intent
At Stamfordham, we provide high quality provision from specialist tutors covering an eclectic scope of music. It is our intention to encourage children to explore a range of musical elements, allowing them to express their feelings and ideas using their voice as well as instruments, whilst improving their skill and building their confidence to perform in an enjoyable environment linking to other curriculum areas.
Implementation
At Stamfordham Primary School, music is taught in all year groups on a weekly basis and in a variety of ways. In early Years, engaging music activities are led by the class teacher , where pupils are given opportunities to explore a variety of genres of music, play instruments, develop singing voices and perform in front of an audience. Pupils in Year 1 to Year 6 access high- quality music provision by specialist music tutors, where they are given opportunities to learn to play musical instruments by reading music, develop singing voices, perform in front of an audience and learn about the history of music.
In addition to this, music is also taught discreetly through a variety of captivating cross-curricular experiences such as history lessons, science experiments and English writing tasks. Pupils are consistently encouraged to develop their unique musical talents through opportunities to rehearse for and participate in performances throughout the school year, such as harvest festival celebrations, talent shows, Christmas productions and end of year performances.
Impact
Progress in music is monitored termly to ensure all pupils meet their full potential. Pupils at Stamfordham get a great deal of enjoyment out of our music provision through opportunities to develop a natural love for music. Children engage enthusiastically with experiences provided for them and this results in a good level of progress throughout the year groups.
